Please read below before submitting an absence report.

ATTENDANCE INFORMATION

EXCUSED ABSENCE

The District states that an EXCUSED ABSENCE is defined as:

  1. Illness or injury of the student which necessitates the absence of the student.  This does not include absence due to illness or injury of the parents, siblings, or child of the student.  It refers to the student only. To help you make a decision whether to keep your student at home, please read the General Exclusion of Ill Children criteria produced by the Contra Costa County Health Services.

  2. Student attendance at a medical, dental, optometric, counseling (for mental or emotional issues) or chiropractic appointment.  The appointment must be for the student, not for any other person.

  3. Student attendance at the funeral service of an immediate family member.  Family member is defined as; mother, father, brother, sister, grandparent, any other relative living in the immediate household.  Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins are not immediate family members unless they live in the same household.  Funeral excused absences are limited to no more than one day for a funeral within California and three days for a funeral outside of the State.

  4. To obtain required immunizations

  5. Exclusion from school i.e. head lice, lack of immunizations or physical examinations.

  6. Appearance in court

  7. Observance of a holiday or ceremony of his/her religion

To report an excused absence for your child as stated above, please complete one of the following:

  1. Call (925) 682-8000 x86203 or

  2. Send an email using adjacent form. Please include Child’s full name, date of absence and reason for absence.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCE

All absences for any reason not included under excused absences should be defined as unexcused. A family trip is not a reason to excuse a child from school.

TARDY

A student is tardy when he/she arrives at school after 7:57 when school has begun.  An excused tardy is defined as medical, dental, optometric, counseling or chiropractic appointments.

Independent Study

If it is necessary for your child to be absent 3 or more days for a reason other than illness, “Independent Study” is an alternative to the regular classroom instruction during that time. It must be understood that this does not replicate the educational program occurring during the child’s absence. If you wish to use this option please notify the office at least 5 school days prior to the first date of the planned absence to apply for Independent Study. Once you have been approved, the parent, child, teacher, and administration will sign contracts and agree to complete the assigned work within a specific timeline. Students who complete Independent Study contracts are ineligible to earn perfect attendance awards.

Note: Please read letter from Contra Costa County District Attorney regarding attendance. Adobe Reader is required to view letter.
