English Language Development (ELD)

 

Students who need to learn English are provided with specific supports within the classroom. These strategies focus on (SDAIE) strategies to enhance academic language comprehension. All English Language learners who need further support are provided with 30 minutes of daily English language learning as required by CA state law. Intense, small group, consistent academic support is provided at WA through a pull-out model in 1^st-5^th grades that is largely funded by our PFC. A part-time ELD teacher pulls small groups Monday through Thursday mornings and our district-sponsored coach teaches on Fridays. Daily ELD in kindergarten is provided by classroom teacher.
